Plumber in Torrey Pines, San Diego: Which City Is Your Home In?

Most of Torrey Pines is parkland, golf course and office space. The City’s Torrey Pines planning area covers about 2,600 acres, and 42 percent of it is parks and open space against 24 percent residential. The homes sit mainly in two neighborhoods, Del Mar Heights and Del Mar Terraces, and Courtesy Plumbing works in both.

Before any bigger plumbing job here, find out which city your house is actually in. Del Mar Heights shares the 92014 ZIP code with the separate City of Del Mar, so the address alone doesn’t settle it. The answer changes who runs your water and who issues your permit.

City of San Diego or City of Del Mar?

Homes in Del Mar Heights and Del Mar Terraces are in the City of San Diego. Report a street leak, a sewer spill or low or high water pressure to the City’s Public Utilities Department at 619-515-3525. Plumbing permits come from the City of San Diego, where swapping one tank water heater for another, or replacing a pressure regulator, falls under a simple no-plan permit.

Homes inside the City of Del Mar are on Del Mar’s own water system. According to Del Mar’s annual water quality report, the city buys untreated water from the San Diego County Water Authority and has the City of San Diego treat it at the Miramar plant. Del Mar then stores it in four reservoirs of its own. Water questions there go to Del Mar Public Works at (858) 755-3294, and building and plumbing work follows Del Mar’s own municipal code.

The quickest way to check is your water bill. Whichever city sends it is the city you’re in.

  • Condos and townhomes in Sorrento Valley, the industrial and office side of the planning area: our Sorrento Valley page walks through a water heater replacement in an attached home.
